As women, I think we are the target of a LOT of expectations when it comes to babies and children.
If a woman doesn’t want to have children, there’s automatically a question that pops up in everyone’s head. “Why not?” Which is a completely valid question, but then if the answer is anything other than “Well, maybe one day…I don’t know,” then everyone tends to stare at you like you’re a heartless monster. If you aren’t someone who wants kids, I think it’s important that you aren’t automatically judged for it. Some people just aren’t interested in the thought of kids. You shouldn’t feel the need to lie about possibly maybe wanting them down the road when you very well know that kids are not in your future.
I’ve always wanted children, but I can definitely see how they could be a negative thought for certain people. After all, they are definitely a HUGE time commitment and cost a lot of money. If you want kids, you need to be 100% sure and committed to the idea.
On the flip side, woman also get judged when they do have baby fever. If we freak out a little when we see a cute baby, when we talk about “Well if MY kid did that I would…” or when we can’t get over how ADORABLE those cute little baby Converse are!
It’s perfectly okay for us to love babies and want to be around kids. Some of us just have a higher maternal instinct than others! Or we might just appreciate the innocence of babies and it’s relaxing to be around. Either way, we shouldn’t be judged or called “obsessed” for liking babies or baby things.
So whether you fit into the baby fever category, or not so much category, you shouldn’t have to justify your thoughts on children!
Do you guys have any experience with either of these judgements? I’d love to hear in the comments! Or just feel to discuss your thoughts. I love hearing your guys’ input! After all, this is my Girl Talk series, so I love when we can talk and discuss issues that are affecting females.
